About This Blog

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement — a poetic dialogue between nature, space, and time.

What fascinates me most about this art is its ephemeral nature, beautifully expressed by Akane Teshigahara: “Ikebana is a form of sculpture that exists only within a limited time span, transforms from moment to moment, then perishes.”

I am Evrim Ozkan Yazici, a practitioner and certified teacher of Sogetsu Ikebana based in Geneva, Switzerland.

I am a member of Ikebana International Geneva Chapter and Sogetsu Branche Suisse.

I feel privileged to study under Ms. Elsbeth von Siebenthal and her assistants — Agnes Merz, Marie-Claude Noble, and Chantal Mory. 

This blog, which I started in 2012, is a personal journal of my Ikebana journey — a space to document my explorations, share inspiration, and connect with others who appreciate the art of Japanese floral design. Ikebana continues to deepen my understanding of art and my love for plants, flowers, and trees. I warmly welcome your thoughts and comments.

Alongside Ikebana, I am also a ceramic artist. While my ceramic work mainly consists of architectural sculptures, I enjoy creating custom Ikebana vases for myself and friends.

Originally, I wrote this blog in my native language, Turkish, so many of the earlier posts reflect that. Since late 2014, I have continued this journal in English. I hope you enjoy exploring my Ikebana journey.

Parc Bastion, Geneva

Evrim Özkan Yazıcı, sık sık, diğer sonsuz sayıda işini boşverip, kendini çiçekler ve dalların hüküm sürdüğü İkebana dünyasına atıyor. Bir süredir İsviçre'de, Cenevre'de yaşaması bunu kolaylaştırıyor, itiraf ediyor.

Cenevre, yeşili, toprağı, börtü böceği ve her türlü sanat formunu seven bir garip yer çünkü.

Evrim, 2012'den beri Sogetsu Okulunu takip eden bir grupla birlikte İkebana çalışıyor. Ikebana International Geneva Chapter'ın ve Sogetsu Branche Suisse'in de üyesi. Fırsat buldukça Ikebana sergilerine katılıyor.

Bu blog, Evrim'in kişisel İkebana seyir defteri olmasının yanısıra, Türkçe konuşan İkebana severlere ulaşmak için bir alan olmaya da soyunuyor. Yorumlarınızı bekliyorum.

Yazılar 2014'e kadar Türkçe yazıldı. 2015 itibariyle blog dilini İngilizce'ye çevirdim. Bu yazılarla ilgili sorunuz olursa yorumlar kısmından iletebilirsiniz.

İkebana, Japon çiçek düzenleme sanatının genel adı. Basitçe söylersek, çiçek, dal, ot, ağaç kütüğü, meyze sebze ve benzeri bitkisel malzemeleri kullanarak; bulunduğu mekanı dönüştüren, yaşayan, sınırlı ömrünün bilincini seyredene yansıtan sanat eserleri yaratmak olarak tanımlanabilir.
