I loved this week's challenge of using see through multiple glass containers. Water is always being considered as an important element of Ikebana arrangements but in this particular case of glass vases, water is the shin. 

Bamboo Revisited: Trial and Error

I was looking forward to this bamboo lesson. How shouldn't I? I have seen incredible, sculptural, over-sized Ikebana arrangements from Sogetsu School using bamboo in amazing ways lately and I was more than ready to get some hands-on experience. You can see a few examples here showing the masters' work.

One of the end results of my trials and errors can be seen in the picture. The bamboo I used was a little bit drier than ideal so I couldn't get the curves I really wanted and had to content myself with what I could achieve.

I put two photos below to show you the hand tools we use to cut and separate the bamboo.

In addition to my struggle with bamboo, the beautiful flowers of ginger I happened to choose for this week was proved to be a difficult one to use. Anyhow, I am content with the process and the arrangement.

Morimono: Meyveler, Sebzeler ve Diğer Güzel Şeyler

Sonbaharla birlikte pazarda görmeyi en sevdiğim sebzelerin başında kabak ailesi geliyor. Cenevre'de balkabakları, sukabakları, çeşitli büyüklük ve biçimde süs kabakları her yerden, bazen market tezgahlarından, bazen sokaklara yerleştirdikleri şehir bahçesi varillerden, bazen tarla kenarlarındaki satış noktalarından size el ediyor.

Şimdi yanlış anlaşılsın istemem. Herhangi bir yerde kişisel hizmet almaya ve vermeye alışkın olmayan Cenevre ahalisi, bireye güven üzerine kurulmuş sistemlerine de dayanarak olsa gerek, self-service bir tarla satışı yöntemi belirlemiş. Çiftçinin oğlu, kızı, annesi, emmisi ya da bir allahın kulu bütün gün biri gelecek diye tarla köşesinde beklemiyor, satıcı kimse yok, kabağınızı seçip hemen yanındaki kutuya paranızı bırakıyorsunuz. Alan razı satan razı.

Bu uzun girişten sonra ikebanaya dönecek olursam, bu haftanın konusu morimono olunca, öznesi de kabak oldu mecburen.

Morimono özel bir ikebana aranjmanın adı. Renk, biçim, doku özellikleriyle ilginç olan sebze ve meyveleri, kök, tohum, kozalak gibi normalde çiçek düzenlemelerinde kullanılmayan malzemeleri biraraya getiriyor. Japonya'da neşeli olayları kutlamak için bir sunu, adak gibi de düşünülüyormuş. 

Yukarıda gördüğünüz morimono'da sonbahar renklerinin peşine düştüm. Arkadaki tombul sukabağı (sonradan lezzetli bir çorbaya dönüştü gerçi) başroldeydi ama ortamı domine eden koca göbeğini diğer süs kabağıyla, kozalak ve japon feneri çiçekleriyle sakladım. Bu düzenlemede en sevdiğim öğelerden biri yandaki kuru kivi dallarını yankılayacak şekilde yerleştirdiğim alüminyum tel. 

Morimono bir tabağın, örtü veya geniş bir yaprağın üzerinde sergilenebileceği gibi, derin vazolar veya ikebana kaplarında da yapılabilir. Üstteki düzenlemede ben babamın el emeği, değerli ahşap tepsimi kullandım. Yandaki ikinci aranjmanda ise farklı bir morimono yaklaşımı görüyorsunuz.

The Imperial Chrysanthemum

As some of you may know, chrysanthemums are very much appreciated and loved by Japanese people. The Imperial Seal of Japan, the emblem of Japanese Emperor, is actually a 16 petal yellow chrysanthemum. This seal is also embossed on Japanese passports.

These beautiful flowers represents longevity and rejuvenation and called Kiku in Japanese. They even have a festival to their honor and name: Kiku Matsuri.

I love working with chrysanthemums, their numerous variety, shape and color make beautiful Ikebana, though it is not easy to find the right balance in an all-chrysanthemum arrangement. Here, I use three sorts of chrysanthemums in two triangular containers juxtaposed onto each other.  

I couldn't get a good picture of this week's work so I had to content myself with what I have just to give you an idea.

Sogetsu Variation 2: Slanting Style Nageire

Kocaman kollarını herkesi saracak gibi açmış bu düzenlemeyi yaparken çok keyif aldım. Nageire çalışmak kolay olmuyor. Yüksek vazolarda, dalları istenen açıda yerleştirip sabitlemek için, dışarıdan görünmeyen ek yardımcı dallar kullanılıyor. Özellikle temel stilleri çalışırken çok özen gerekiyor.   

Aynı çiceklerle serbest tarzda evde yaptığım yeniden düzenlemeyi daha çok seviyorum ama ne yalan söylemeli. 

Evde kendi el emeğim, bu koyu kahve renkli, yaprak formlu vazoyu kullandım. Bu vazoyu sadece ikebanayı düşleyerek 2014 yılı başında Michelle'in atölyesinde yapmıştım. Farklı açılardan bakıldığında yarattığı etkiyi seviyorum. 












   

A Basket of Autumn Colors

Well, this is my first basket arrangement which has a full range of rules that I was not aware of at the beginning. Even if I found it challenging to comply with all the rules, I enjoyed a lot using these autumn colored big chrysanthemums with other beautiful flowers.

Enjoy these wonderful arrangements from the masters of Geneva Sogetsu Chapter with Elsbeth von Siebental.

I took these pictures in the Ikebana Exposition, Geneva, Switzerland that took place on 3-5 October 2014 as part of the 30th anniversary of Sogetsu Branche Suisse.

I couldn't be able to photograph all the arrangements and surely the ones you see in this page don't honor enough of their original beauty, size, technique and the feelings they arouse in the spectators. I am also sorry that I couldn't add the names of the participants.

Annemle Cenevre'de Ustaların Sergisindeyiz

Bu sene harika bir sonbahar yaşıyoruz Cenevre'de. Bütün renkler almış başını gidiyor, hava ılık, güneş bahçede kahve keyfine izin veriyor. Ekim ayı annemle babam gelince daha bir güzel oldu. Hele bu seyahatleri bir ikebana sergisiyle eşzamanlı olunca, biz anne kız bunu kaçıramazdık, yol uzak filan demedik gittik.

Sergi, Sogetsu İsviçre Şubesinin 30. kuruluş yıldönümü etkinlikleri kapsamında 3-5 Ekim 2014 tarihinde Cenevre'de yapıldı.
